IMAGINENATIVE FILM AND MEDIA ARTS FESTIVAL

The Largest Presenter Of Indigenous Film and Media Arts

Shining A Spotlight On Aboriginal Talents

Founded in 1998, the imagineNATIVE Film and Media Arts Festival is an international festival that showcases the latest works by Indigenous peoples in film, video, radio and new media. It is the largest presenter of Indigenous film and media arts in the world. The festival presents a selection of the most spectacular and groundbreaking works by or regarding Aboriginal people. Film enthusiasts and industry professionals attend screenings, parties, panel discussions and cultural events all through the festival.

Founded by Cynthia Lickers-Sage with the help of Vtape and other community partners, imagineNATIVE has become one of the most important Indigenous film and media arts festivals in the world. The five-day festival provides Indigenous filmmakers, media artists and curators with networking opportunities as well as workshops aimed at honing skills in the industry and professional advancement.

The 2013 edition of imagineNative runs from October 15th to the 20th in Toronto. "Mystery Road", directed by Ivan Sen, will open the Festival at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema on Wednesday, October 16. "Mystery Road" tells the story of Indigenous cowboy-detective Jay Swan, as he returns to his outback hometown to solve the murder of a teenage girl. The closing night film, "Uvanga", directed by Madeline PiujuqIvalu and Marie-Helene.

Cousineau will screen on Sunday, October 20 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. "Uvanga" is the story of a young man discovering the land and culture of a father he never knew in Igloolik, Nunavut. Once again, imagineNATIVE brings the world to Toronto, while showcasing Aboriginal films, food, culture, media and the arts in general.
